Project 14 helpful hints

  • Grab the bin with the white lid from the 206 closet. Using the ratchet straps, suspend blades from the ladders to allow for movement during the alignment process.

  • Our fave method to find a consistent spot for the inclinometer involved measuring twice from the machined surface, to just past the bade bolt, then connecting the dots with a line. See photos.

  • String alignment
Static balance, final torque of latch bolts
    Final torque of blade bolts

  • Spend time on the string alignment. The idea is to maximize the span of the rotor blades to maintain maximum lift.

Hoisting of head to remove from aircraft. Remove blades and marking on latches at this time.
Inspection of blade bolts (requires use of optical digital micrometer) and grip bushings

Install Blades (ensure you snug latch bolt upon installing a blade to the grip)
String alignment
Static balance, final torque of latch bolts
Final torque of blade bolts
Installation of rotor head on aircraft, torquing of mast nut, and safetying
Install equipment and explain adjustments for dynamic track and balance on the aircraft
Remove balancing equipment from aircraft
Check for proper storage of balance equipment.
Track and balance of whirly-gig to less than .1 IPS
